With over 1,300 exhibitors, from 30 countries, the event attracted the attention of 67,700 visitors of 40 nationalities.

São Paulo, May 2009 – The 12th FEIMAFE – International Machine Tools and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Trade Fair and the 10th QUALIDADE – International Quality Control Trade Fair were considered by exhibitors as dividing marks of the machine tools sector, inasmuch as business generated or initiated during the event surpassed expectations.

“Notwithstanding current world economic crisis which has impacted the machines and equipment sectors, the two fairs were an agreeable surprise with the pavilion full of stands, with a good public attendance and companies being able to start and conclude business deals”, said Carlos Nogueira, vice president of ABIMAQ – Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association.

Organised and promoted by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, the events counted with the presence of 1,300 exhibitors and received 67,700 visitors – 1,218 from abroad, among manufacturers, buyers, traders, trade professionals, technicians of the sector and technical and university students, interested in getting an understanding about various last generation products, machines, equipment and services capable of improving productivity and optimising industrial productive processes.

Another important highlight of the events, held between May 18 to 23 at Anhembi Exhibition Hall, São Paulo, Brazil, was the quality of the visiting public, all interested in seeing the latest novelties, make contacts for short and medium term business and, also, to buy. “Pre-registration was an added facility for buyers to visit both events”, stated Evaristo Nascimento, director of the two fairs. Of the total, 66,913 registered themselves through Internet. In comparison with the previous event, held in 2007, this edition had an exhibition area 4% greater, with 72 thousand square metres.

FEIMAFE and QUALIDADE 2009 counted with the support of ABIMAQ through CSMF - Machine Tools and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Sectorial Chamber, CSHPA - Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Industrial Automation Equipment Sectorial Chamber, CSAG - Compressed Air and Gases Sectorial Chamber and CSQI - Machines, Equipment and Instruments for Quality Control, Tests and Measurement Sectorial Chamber, of SINAFER - Union of Iron Artefacts, Metals and Tools Industry of the State of São Paulo; and the collaboration of ABENDE - Brazilian Non-Destructive Tests and Inspection Association.

International Presence
FEIMAFE and QUALIDADE 2009 also called attention to its international participation with the presence of exhibitors from 30 countries and a qualified public from 40 countries. “This presence underlines the concept that the events are a strong business indicator, in addition to highlighting the potential of the Brazilian market”, explains Nascimento.

Of 52 companies that participated for the first time, 37 were international. Also unique was the presence of the British Government through the Trade Development Department of the British Consulate General in Brazil and of France, represented by UBIFRANCE and by the Economic Mission of France in São Paulo, both of whom bet on the great potential of the Brazilian market and are interested in boosting economic relations between their countries.

Germany, Italy and Spain increased their participation at the events and counted with a larger number of exhibitors – 22, 40 and 6 companies respectively – in their exclusive pavilions. According to their representatives, the two reasons for this increased presence relates to the importance of the Brazilian market in their businesses and the visibility that the fairs afford their marks and brand names.

Traditional exhibitors, Argentina and Switzerland, also maintained a pavilion at the fair to demonstrate machines and equipment manufactured by companies of their countries. Three Swiss companies exhibited, principally, the novelties connected with lathes and special machines. In the case of Argentina, six companies marked their presence.

With regard to business, ABIMAQ promoted on May 19 and 20, International Business Roundtables. In all, 62 meeting were held between 20 Brazilian companies connected with the machine tools and quality control equipment companies and 10 international buyers from Argentina, Colombia, Iran, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, United States and Venezuela. The association estimates that the bilateral meetings generated a sales turnover of about US$7 million over the next 12 months.
