The two events are likely to bring together 1200 exhibitors from 30 countries
São Paulo, September 2008 – Between 18th and 23rd May, 2009, in the Anhembi Exhibition Pavilion in São Paulo, Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado will be promoting the 12th FEIMAFE (International Machine Tools and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Trade Fair) and the 10ª QUALIDADE (International Quality Control Trade Fair). Up to 2007, the events were promoted by Alcantara Machado Feiras de Negócios. As from this edition both will be produced by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, a joint venture between the biggest fairs’ promoter in the world (Reed Exhibitions) and the biggest in Latin America (Alcantara Machado Feiras de Negócios).
Aimed at industrialists, buyers, trades people, professionals and technicians from the sector, the objective of the these events is to bring innovation to the machine tool sector and guarantee business opportunities for a market that in 2007 had revenues of R$ 2.1 billion, according to Roberto Schaefer, Chairman of the Machine Tool Sector Chamber of ABIMAQ (Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry). For 2008, revenues are estimated at R$ 2.3 billion.
"FEIMAFE and QUALIDADE bring the very best there is in the world in the machine tool and quality control equipment industry and are among the main events in the sector", observes Evaristo Nascimento, Director of Fairs for Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado.
The automotive industry is one of the biggest consumers of machine tools in Brazil. According to ABIMAQ, expansion in this industry in 2008 (an increase of at least 8.9% in vehicle production, the equivalent of 3.24 million units) should boost business in the machine tool sector in Brazil. Research indicates that 66% of the automobile industries are likely to buy machines during the year.
The fairs are supported by ABIMAQ (Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry), through the CSMF (Machine Tool and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Sector Chamber), CSHPA (Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Industrial Automation Equipment Sector Chamber), CSAG (Compressed Air and Gases Sector Chamber) and CSQI (Sector Chamber of Machinery, Equipment and Instruments for Quality Control, Tests and Measurement), with the collaboration of SINAFER (Trade Federation of Iron Objects, Metals and Tools in General in the State of São Paulo) and ABENDE (Brazilian Association of Non-destructive Testing and Inspection).
A look-back at 2007
In 2007 FEIMAFE and QUALIDADE received some 1250 exhibitors and 65,000 visitors/buyers from Brazil and abroad. The International Business Rounds promoted by ABIMAQ (Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry) received the participation of 17 Brazilian companies and 12 foreign companies and generated business estimated at US$ 4.2 million. In the 2009 edition the expectation is that these numbers will be exceeded.
Machine tools
Machine tools are the beginning of the production chain and because of this they are also called the “mother of all machines” or “the machine for making machines”. They are responsible for transforming metals and allow, for example, a block of cast iron to be transformed into a vehicle engine, or a block of special aluminium to be transformed into an aeroplane wing. In the same way they are responsible for the screw that turns taps on and off, and mobile phone to satellites, via pens, chairs, TV sets, refrigerators, cars and even musical instruments; all these objects that grace our day to day life were produced with the participation of machining centres, lathes, machines for reconditioning engines, milling machines, saws, drills, presses, folding machines, guillotines and other machines that comprise the machine tool group.
