The Thematic Island on the subject of “1942 → Evolution of Brazilian Machine Tools and Skills Training → 2011”, will be one of the main attractions of FEIMAFE-QUALIDADE 2011.

26 Jan 2011

São Paulo, January 2011 – Disseminate the importance of Machine Tools used in the manufacture of all products, is the principal objective of the Thematic Island of FEIMAFE – 13th International Machine Tools and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Trade Fair, which takes place simultaneously with QUALIDADE – 11th International Quality Control Trade Fair, at Anhembi Exhibition Hall, São Paulo, Brazil, from May 23 to 28, 2011.

The Thematic Island project is a partnership between CSMF - Chamber of Machine Tools and Integrated Manufacturing Systems of ABIMAQ, Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado and SENAI-SP.

The importance and development of the Brazilian industry of Machine Tools as well as Professional Skills Training will be highlighted at the Thematic Island at the forthcoming edition of FEIMAFE-QUALIDADE 2011. Here visitors will be able to follow the technological development of this industry and professional skills training from 1942 until now. The Island, divided in three periods, “1942-1960”, “1961-1985” and “2011 state-of-the-art”, will display 23 machines/equipment.

In addition to exhibiting machines of varies decades, the educational institution is taking measures to assemble each environment according to the reality of the period, and this includes dressing operators according to the attire of each period. “Everything is being thought out and planned from the style of roof, illumination, furniture and floor to the overalls of the students and teachers of the SENAI schools of each period”, adds Prof. Osvaldo Maia, of SENAI-SP.

Dozens of students are involved in the project, restoring and painting all the machines for this exhibit”, observes Prof. Mário Eduardo Cazão, Director of the SENAI School of Lençóis Paulista. Another important detail relates to the operation of the machines themselves: thanks to the quality of conservation, practically all the machines and equipment will be in operation, which makes the exhibit even more realistic and interactive. “It will be a revival of the past through to the state-of-the-art of 2011”, concludes Prof. Ricardo Terra, Technical Director of SENAI-SP.

“For us organisers it is important to share this space of the Fair to show to the visiting public and exhibitors the development of the Brazilian industry of Machines Tools, Quality Control Equipment and Professional Skills Training, in addition to demonstrating the importance of the event for the sector itself”, adds Liliane Bortoluci, Director of Fairs of Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado. In accordance with the coordinator of the Thematic Island, engineer Hiçao Misawa, “the idea surrounding the project came about due to the necessity of showing that Machine Tools are a part of our life and our world. Everything that surrounds us, without exception, during one or more phases of its production, had the participation of one or more Machine Tools”.

The background of FEIMAFE / QUALIDADE Thematic Islands

With the theme of Machine Tools and their Importance, the 1st Thematic Island was put together in 2001. At the next edition, in 2003, with the collaboration of Ford, the island exhibited the parallel between the development of the means of transport with the evolution of Machine Tools. In 2005, in association with the Ayrton Senna Institute, the island focused on Technology with Emotion, highlighting the life of Ayrton Senna. Two years later, in association with Embraer, the island focused Technology in the Skies, commemoration the centenary of the flight of the legendary 14 Bis. At the last edition, in 2009, in association with the companies Baumer, Braile Biomédica, Gnatus and Opto Eletrônica the Island showed the Development of Quality of Life relating to Health and Medicine.

As the control and operation of Machine Tools depend on the interface with qualified professionals, CSMF opted to broach the subject of Professional Skills Education at the 2011 edition, having as guest partner SENAI-SP, renowned centre for training manpower for the Brazilian industry, highlighting the development of Brazilian Machine Tools and Skills Training covering the period of 1942 to 2011, during the six days of the Fair.

The machines and equipment on exhibit for the three periods are:

1942 to 1960: Filing Plane, Bench Vise, Bench Drill, Potter Lathe and Parallel Lathe

1961 to1985: Column Drill, Eccentric Press, Electro-Erosion, Universal Lathe, Automatic Lathe, Universal Milling Machine, NC - Numeric Control Lathe, Grinding Machine and Technigraph Drafting Board.

2011 State-of-the-Art: CNC Lathe, Machine Centre, Grinding Plane, Tridimensional Measuring Machine, Parts Handling Robot; CAD/CAM Programming Station, Study Table with Digital Tablets and Interactive Whiteboard.

Analyses of these three periods show the huge development, not only of machines/equipment, but also of skills training methodology. The visitors will be able to see the evolution, for example, from parallel lathes to universal lathes, automatic lathes, NC -Numeric Control lathes and finally the CNC - computer numerical control lathes, or the evolution from filing plane right through to universal milling machines and machine centres.

Organised and promoted by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, the Fairs should bring together over 1,300 exhibitors and receive approximately 70 thousand visitors between businessmen, buyers, media professionals, technicians of the sector, state entities and students eager to see the very latest in machine tools and quality control equipment capable of generating more productivity and better quality.

FEIMAFE and QUALIDADE have the support of ABIMAQ – Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association, through CSMF – Chamber of Machine Tools and Integrated Manufacturing Systems, CSQI – Chamber of Machines, Equipment and Instruments for Quality Control, CSHPA - Chamber of Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Industrial Automation Equipment and of SINAFER - Union of Iron Artefacts, Metals and Tools Industry of the State of São Paulo.
